WHERE DO MY DUES GO?

As a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, the California Heat strives to make hockey available for all. We understand that it is a huge financial commitment to play travel hockey.

With nearly 50% of all expenses going to cover the expense of renting ice for practices and games and 38% going directly to instruction and competition, our promise to our membership is twofold:

  1. We are committed to providing the highest possible value by delivering an experience that makes youth hockey worth the commitment; and
  2. We are committed to full transparency to create trust and ease of mind

Generally, the cost breakdown for a given season is approximately:

  • 50% - Facilities: includes ice rentals for practices, games, and referees.
  • 38% - Coaches: includes salaries, payroll taxes, off-ice training, USA Hockey licensing and education & background checks.
  • 7% - League Fees: SCHAHA and CAHA fees for season and playoffs
  • 4% - General Operations: the overhead of running the business
  • 1% - Apparel & Equipment: Coaches apparel, pucks, practice jerseys, etc.

FINANCIAL AID & SERVICES

The California Heat offers limited financial aid in the form of discounted season dues on a first-come, first-serve basis. Financial Aid applications will be available prior to tryouts.

In addition to aid, we offer:

  • Sibling discounts
  • Alternative payment plans
  • Hardship waivers

The Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) awards financial aid every year to those who complete their application process. The funds are provided directly to the California Heat to apply to season dues for the year. Applications are provided by SCAHA on their website after the season has started. The California Heat will notify all families when the application becomes available.
